President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors to enable the party win Edo elections. He made this statement on Friday when the APC Governors visited him at the State House, Abuja.
Reportedly, President Buhari told the governors to mobilize themselves and ensure that APC wins Edo state.
He also said that Ondo state must be retained by the governing party in the forthcoming election. In addition, President Buhari was unappreciative of the fact that a serving APC governor felt the need to align with the opposition.
It will be recalled that Governor Obaseki of Edo state recently defected to the PDP from the APC. This was as a result of his differences with the former national Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
The irreconcilable dispute between the two led to the disqualification of the governor from contesting the party’s primaries. Likewise, he was unable to seek re-election on the platform of the APC.
Governor Obaseki, however, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party which gave him the waiver to contest the party’s primaries. Moreso, he emerged as the governorship candidate of the party.
It will be recalled that APC’s candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, was beaten by Obaseki in the 2016 election as the candidate of the then opposition party.
